You’ve already heard it: The problem isn’t to sleep train or not, it’s an issue of support.

By now, we all know that infant + toddler sleep is wild.

Sleep is such a hot topic in the parenting world, for multiple reasons. It’s not a “dialectical dilemma “ as it appears to be on the surface, aka it’s not as “black and white” as it seems.

These crucial experiences and decisions around infant , child + parental mental health, as they pertain to sleep, would only be made easier if supports were in place:

• Practical resources for parents to care for their babies, themselves and their household around the clock.

• A “village” or community that holds non-judgement and empathy for the challenges postpartum mothers + families face.

• A society that is educated around mental health, one that acknowledges sleep as a major pillar.

• A workforce that takes into consideration that most mothers who work in their trained professions are working on a frayed nervous system.

We can go on. If you’re feeling torn on this issue, we get it. Please reach out for help, for support. And Know that you are not the problem.

So much of the work that we do and truly believe in here at Moon + Gem is in deconstructing systems, cultures and beliefs that do not benefit the wellness and wellbeing of mothers, parents, children and families. Once we recognize this, we can unsubscribe from the feelings and judgement around “ whether we’re doing it right”.
